PANDEMIC CHANGES
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we created United We Help Fall River; a Collaboration of United Neighbors and United Way of Greater Fall River. Our usual coalition meetings have been consolidated into four community collaborative meetings via Zoom. Our hope is to return to meeting by individual coalition when we are back to face to face meetings. Below are the times of the meetings:

Jan 13 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Since March 2020, the SFPC has held weekly, then bi-weekly, emergency resource meetings for all of our SFPC Members-at-Large. (If you are receiving this email, then yes, you are a SFPC Member-at-Large.) We remain grateful to you as we continue working toward creating a regional food system that works for everyone!

Going forth into 2022, we will be shifting these bi-monthly meetings to quarterly. Our focus during the quarterly meetings will be to provide you with updates on our progress, opportunities to get involved, and ways you can take action as a food stakeholder and community partner.

Our first quarterly meeting will be focused on the recently completed 2021 Southcoast Food System Assessment and will be held via zoom. Since we will be presenting the key takeaways from the Assessment, we are offering our Members-at-Large two opportunities to participate in January’s quarterly meeting – dates, times, and zoom links are below.

One of the critical pieces of information highlighted in the report is depicted below in the infographic. From 2012-2017, we have had a 8.1% decrease in farms and a 8.0% decrease in the total number of acres of land in production in Southeastern MA, outpacing the state in both instances. This shift in farm acreage more than reverses a 7.8% gain documented between 2007 and 2012. Food production, and so much more, will be discussed during January’s presentation.
